Passing By is one of four Artist Residency projects run through the Gosford Regional Gallery, occurring in Shop 153/154 at the Imperial Shopping Centre, Gosford between the 18th and 29th of June, 2012. The eventual outcomes of these works will be exhibited at the Gosford Regional Gallery from 21st July to 16th September, 2012.
Passing By deals with history, memory, connection to place and the every day object, and the essence of being through the reuse of materials and personal stories. It is primarily a textile based work utilising existing fabric items supplied by Gosford residents and reconfigured by the artist to celebrate the people, places, past, present and future of the Gosford CBD.
It is a layered work that transforms the 'found' (donated) objects and interweaves the connections attributed to them to create a site-specific structure as memorial, which delivers an uncertain environment where the viewer can encircle, enter, inspect at close proximity or view from afar; where the shared stories form a soundscape reminiscent of ambient city sounds receding and interrupting contemplation and consciousness.
Kylie Rose McLean is interested in your fabric items and their corresponding stories becoming part of her project, Passing By. Get involved by contacting her at [email protected] or on 0418 228 933.
